Tamil Nadu has a total
of roughly 475 to 480 polytechnic colleges. The vast majority
of these are private, self-financing institutions.
The institutions are
broadly categorized into the following:

- Government-Aided Polytechnic Colleges: Around 30 to 40 institutions

Tamil Nadu is home to over
660 engineering colleges, with approximately 570+ private institutions and
50+ government-run colleges. The majority of these institutions are affiliated
with Anna University and participate in the centralized Tamil Nadu Engineering
Admissions (TNEA) counseling process.
